Do you believe in paranormal activity? Comedy and horror are notoriously difficult genres to master. When a film or web series claims to be “based on true events,” it often leaves a lasting impression. This week, Netflix dares to darken these waters further with its latest release, “Terror Tuesday: Extreme,” a Thai horror anthology that claims to be rooted in the chilling realm of the real. With each episode promising a glimpse into the paranormal, viewers may find themselves questioning more than just the lights flickering in the dead of night.

TERROR TUESDAY: EXTREME: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

This eight-episode anthology series is rooted in the popular Thai EFM radio show, Terror Tuesday, also known as “Angkhan Khlumpong.” Each episode tells a different story. However, if you’re a die-hard horror fan, you might find yourself a bit disappointed. Remember when I mentioned how disclaimers about true events leave a psychological impact? They make us believe that what we’re watching isn’t purely fictional, and that’s where the series sometimes falls short.

Let’s dive into each of the eight episodes and see which ones feel truly believable.

S1.E1 ∙ Our Little Sister

This episode might remind you of the Annabelle series. Following a tragic accident that claims young Elle, her mother desperately attempts to contact her spirit, eventually inviting it into a doll. This plot, though predictable, echoes many past movies and shows.

Rating: 5/10

S1.E2 · Wedding Dress

Meet Mill, a talented tailor with dreams of wearing her own stunning bridal gown someday. But her new job at a bridal shop takes a spooky turn. The shop is haunted by a spirit—a young woman who once aspired to slim down for her own wedding dress. Tragically, during a heated argument, she was mistakenly killed by the shop owner. Now, her spirit seems unable to leave the place where her dreams were cut short. This episode mixes a ghost story with a real-world issue—how far some go to fit a beauty standard. It’s a chilling reminder that sometimes, the true horror lies in our own reflections.

Rating: 7/10

S1.E3 · Ode to My Family

This episode feels like a classic horror film, but the writing and the ending make it stand out. A police officer’s family is forced to move into an old, creepy house. One night, the officer’s son discovers a sealed room with a warding charm. And, as is typical in horror stories, he does exactly what he shouldn’t—Ignoring the warding charm, he opens it, unleashing a haunting that affects the entire family .

Rating: 7/10

S1.E4 · The Vow

They say that in love, secrets should never be kept. This is the central theme of this episode. A couple visits an ancient temple to seek blessings and promises to always be honest with each other. But they eventually break this promise, and the goddess forces them to reveal the secrets they’ve hidden from each other—failing which, they must face the dire consequences.

My rating: 6/10

S1.E5 ∙ Spectral Class

This one is my favorite, and it feels like it could be based on a true story. The combination of superstition and addiction can be deadly, leading to hallucinations. The episode revolves around a school where a teacher is assigned solo nighttime duty. Strange twists and turns begin when a boy, who had been missing for some time, suddenly reappears on the teacher’s watch. What happens next is truly worth watching.

My rating: 8/10

S1.E6 ∙ Girl Next Door

In one sentence, a typical haunted apartment tale —one that many of us have heard from a friend or family member. A man moves into an apartment and becomes infatuated with the girl next door, unaware that behind her beauty lies a dark and tragic story.

My rating: 5/10

S1.E7 ∙ Dear Granny

This episode is also somewhat convincing, especially if you’re familiar with the kind of black magic practices often depicted in Indian folklore. It’s a horror story about a grandmother who mysteriously disappears for three days and then suddenly returns home, but everything changes after her return.

My rating: 7/10

S1.E8 · Viral Curse

This episode delves into the eerie concept of a curse spreading through a live-streamed radio show. The story centers around a single mother who owns a laundry store. While working, she listens to the Angkhan Khlumpong program, unaware that the curse from the show is seeping into her life. As the curse begins to manifest, she notices unsettling changes in her home, which soon escalate, threatening both her and her daughter’s lives. The concept is intriguing, but the execution feels more fictional and less convincing compared to other episodes. The tension is there, but it doesn’t quite reach the heights of true horror.

My rating: 6/10

Overall Review:

Each episode of “Terror Tuesday: Extreme,” directed by different filmmakers, narrates tales claimed to be told by real people on the Thai radio show. The disclaimer of “based on true events” always adds a unique impact on the audience. While the stories vary in quality and are not interconnected, select episodes like “Spectral Class,” “Ode to My Family,” and “Wedding Dress” stand out for their compelling narratives.
